Reader Q&A : Learning Final Cut Pro
Hi Kevin,
I am fairly new at producing television commercials, and most recently I wrote and produced a documentary. My partner who recently moved from Hawaii to Alaska, edited all our work. Since we worked all the time, I had no time to learn the editing process which I so much want to do. I'm not completely green to FCP but hands on... never. I recently moved to Oregon from Hawaii and finally have some time to learn. I was told there is a Thompson Masters Series that is for beginners to advanced in Final Cut Pro. Your help will be greatly appreciated.

Hey Becky,
My first suggestion is to keep your eye's peeled on websites like this one. We try to post tutorials to help you learn everything from the basics all the way up to the advanced level's of Final Cut Pro, and if you do have questions, or want to see a particular tutorial on Final Cut Pro, or any other editing related topic, don't hesitate to drop us a line at tutorial_requests@proeditingathome.com , and we'll get right on creating a tutorial for you, and our other readers. I personally am not big on in-class training, as I think that you pay ridiculous amounts of money for a teacher to go through a book with you that you could have bought for $60 and saved yourself anywhere from $500 to $1000 dollars. As for "home schooling, some of my personal favorite training is the PeachPit Apple Pro training series. They are always one of the first to release training for Final Cut Studio, as well as almost all other aspects of Apple and Adobe software. Your other option is DVD based training, and for my money, I really like the Class On Demand training. They offer training for Final Cut Studio 2 (the basics), Final Cut Pro 6 (advanced), Adobe CS4 (Production Premium, including After Effects, Photoshop, etc) and even other programs you wouldn't think of like Sorenson Squeeze and even Episode and Episode Pro from Telestream. For more information of Peachpit Press' line of training for Apple products, you can click here, and to check out Class On Demand's training lineup, you can click here!
