Reader Q&A : Alternates to Magic Bullet Looks
Hi, I read your article on Magic Bullet Looks and I have used it. It is absolutely amazing! I recently upgraded my PC and inadvertently got new hardware that Magic Bullet doesn't support. Do you know of any other programs that do what Magic Bullet does? Even if they aren't as good. I've searched and can't seem to find anything so far.
Thanks,
Jeremy
Hey Jeremy,
Thanks for dropping me a line. One thing that is important to keep in mind is that just because they say that it is not supported doesn't necessarily mean that it won't run, it just means that if you have problems, they won't give you any technical support. As far as good color grading for PC, there really isn't anything out there that is in the same price range that delivers the same awesome quality as MBL . Many of plug-in packages out there do have color grading plug-ins included in them, and as a matter of fact, BorisFX just released their Boris Continuum Film Look Unit which includes Film Process, Film Damage, Match Grain, Film Grain, Deinterlace, and Prism all of which are inclued in Boris Continuum Complete 5, except now you can get them on their own for a much cheaper price of $299. This might be a good option for you as BCFL is supported in many applications such as Adobe After Effects (Win/Mac), Adobe Premiere Pro (Win/Mac), Apple Final Cut Pro (Mac), Apple Motion (Mac), and Apple Final Cut Express (Mac). The have a free demo that you can download and try, so I definitely recommend you do that before you buy anything. Take a look at a sample of some of the presets included in the Film Process Effect.
